I don’t have to tell y’all I have been taking a writing break. And I deeply appreciate all of the requests that I get back to it. This is the year I promised myself I would find the courage and the energy to renovate my blog and get back to it. Well I have got to stop using the fact that they blog hasn’t been redone to write. Stop letting perfect get in the way of good enough. I will renovate the blog. Now this.
I just spent a week with my two of my childhood friends. They say you can’t go home again, it turns out you don’t have to. Your friends are carrying that shared history for you. They have had it the entire time. It was like we were speaking a secret kind of shorthand.
Most of our sentences started with, “Do you remember that time we….” and ended with us rolling with laughter. My abs feel like I have done a week worth of cross fit.
Your childhood friends know you in ways even you may have forgotten, because maybe you were trying to forget. Perhaps sugar coating some of the less than pretty parts of your early days. Smoothing out the edges in your mind. However, it was so nice to have the validation from an outside source. I practically wanted to get sworn affidavits when they brought up some of the facts my family denies.
I feel so grateful to have friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Connections that have survived throughout all the plot twists our different paths have taken. The laughter was pure joy. The validation was unexpectedly healing. And ladies, you have lit a fire under me to start writing again.
